This is my oldest attempt at painting, and my only one I put on a canvas. It looks sort of like I was trying to imitate Van Gogh. I know I have always loved his paintings but I don't think I set out to
imitate him. No one else can do it like he did. I can't remember exactly, since it was painted in 1974.
I have put smaller versions of most of the paintings on this page. You can click on them and go to the larger version if you want a better view.
I don't know if you would call these art, but they are the only kind I can make.
The first 2 paintings I made when my first child was an infant. I wanted him to have something colorful to look at since our walls were plain white. I put them on the wall next to his crib.
This one was made when I was hoping to get pregnant again wanting to have a little girl. While I wasn't consciously planning how this would look, doesn't it suggest conception?
Here is one more, of which I never finished, but some day, when the feeling is right, I will pick it up and finally fill in the rest.
I never plan my paintings, I prefer to just play or to let out my feelings. I have the same feeling sometimes when I sit down at the computer and type out pages and pages of my thoughts and memories. It feels like I am getting out something that I needed to express in one way or another.
I also just added my old montages to my web site. I made them in the late 60's and early 70's with a lot of emphasis on issues of the day. If you want to go see the first one, go to this page...
Go to Maggie's Montage #1 starting with this first one.
